ലഡാക്കിലെ ഗല്‍വാന്‍ താഴ്വരയില്‍ തിങ്കളാഴ്ച രാത്രിയാണ് സംഘര്‍ഷം നടന്നത്. സംഘര്‍ഷത്തില്‍ മൂന്ന് ഇന്ത്യന്‍ സൈനികര്‍ കൊല്ലപ്പെട്ടതായി വിദേശകാര്യമന്ത്രാസലയം സ്ഥിരീകരിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഒരു കേണലും രണ്ട് സൈനികരുമാണ് കൊല്ലപ്പെട്ടത്. ചര്‍ച്ചകള്‍ നടക്കുന്നതിനിടെ ഗല്‍വാന്‍വാനിയില്‍ ഇരുവിഭാഗം സൈനികരും മുഖാമുഖം വരികയും ചൈനീസ് സൈന്യം ആക്രമിക്കുകയുമായിരുന്നെന്നാണ് റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ട്.
ഈയിടെ ഇന്ത്യ ചൈന അതിർത്തി സംഘർഷത്തിന് അയവ് വന്നിരുന്നു. പ്രധാന സംഘർഷ മേഖലയായ കിഴക്കൻ ലഡാക്കിൽ നിന്ന് ഇന്ത്യ-ചൈന സൈന്യങ്ങൾ പിൻമാറിയിരുന്നു. ഇതിനിടെയാണ് വീണ്ടും സംഘര്‍ഷം ഉടലെടുത്തത്.
മെയ് അഞ്ചിനാണ് ലഡാക്കിലെ ഗാല്‍വാന്‍ നദിയോട് ചേര്‍ന്നുള്ള ഇന്ത്യന്‍ പ്രദേശങ്ങളിലേക്ക് അയ്യായിരത്തോളം സൈനികര്‍ അതിക്രമിച്ച് കയറിയത്. മെയ് 12ന് പാങോങിലെ ലേക്ക് സെക്ടറിലെ തര്‍ക്ക പ്രദേശങ്ങളിലും സമാനമായ അതിക്രമങ്ങളുണ്ടായി. സമാനമായ തോതില്‍ ഇന്ത്യയും സൈനിക നീക്കം നടത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. ലഡാക്കിന് പുറമേ സിക്കിം, ഉത്തര്‍പ്രദേശ്, അരുണാചല്‍ പ്രദേശ് എന്നീ സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളിലെ ചൈനീസ് അതിര്‍ത്തികളിലും ഇന്ത്യ കൂടുതല്‍ സൈന്യത്തെ വിന്യസിച്ചിരുന്നു.
