Hello everyone,

My name is George, and I currently reside in Europe with my family. Last December (2024), I traveled to Kerala to spend the holidays with my family in Aluva. While it was a cherished time with loved ones, I had a troubling medical experience that I feel compelled to share for the sake of public awareness.

A week before my trip, I noticed blood in my urine and experienced severe pain. After drinking a liter of water, the symptoms subsided, but I decided to consult a doctor in Kerala for a proper diagnosis.

On 26th December 2024, I visited Karothukuzhy Hospital, Aluva, and consulted a urology specialist, Dr. Mathew Mangat. After explaining my symptoms, the doctor recommended blood and urine tests and a prostate scan (conducted externally at DDIC Aluva).

The next day, I returned with my test results, and this is what the doctor told me:

My prostate size was 45 cc.
My PSA count was 6.41 ng/ml (as per the blood test).
Based on these findings, the doctor insisted I needed immediate laparoscopic surgery and suggested performing the operation on 30th December 2024. He quoted Rs. 65,000 for his fee, excluding hospital charges and other expenses.

Since I have free insurance in Switzerland, I decided to delay the surgery and consult a specialist in my home country. Upon returning, I consulted Dr. Christian Buchwald, a renowned urologist in Switzerland, on 26th January 2025.

After conducting the same diagnostic tests, the results were vastly different and shocking:

My prostate size was 31.7 cc (well within normal range).
My PSA count was 2.65 ng/ml (not alarming).
According to the new results, no surgery was required.

This huge discrepancy between the test results from Karothukuzhy Hospital/DDIC Aluva and the results in Switzerland raises serious questions:

Was this a case of technical or procedural error?
Or was it a deliberate attempt to mislead and financially exploit patients?
Such actions, if intentional, are cruel, unethical, and deeply concerning. Imagine if I had blindly trusted the doctor’s advice and undergone an unnecessary surgery. Many patients, especially those who are unaware of the need for a second opinion, might fall victim to such practices.

I urge all medical institutions to ensure that diagnostic procedures are accurate and ethical. And I strongly advise all patients to always seek a second opinion before making critical medical decisions.

This post is not just to highlight my experience but to raise awareness about the importance of questioning and verifying medical advice. Let’s work together to ensure accountability and fairness in healthcare for everyone.

Stay safe and informed.

Warm regards,
George
